El domingo 26 de Febrero se llevó a cabo la gala de lo mejor de la industria del cine, los Academy Awards o popularmente llamados Los Premios Oscar.
El evento tuvo como anfitrión al actor Billy Crystal. Una noche sin precendentes, en la que Hugo de Martin Scorsese fue la más galardonada llevandose 5 estatuillas.
La Mejor Película del Año fue para The Artist, del director francés Michel Hazanavicius quien obtuvo el premio a Mejor Director por dicha película. Jean Dujardin se convirtió en el primer francés es obtener el premio en la categoría de Mejor Actor. Meryl Streep luego de 29 años volvió a ganar el premio a Mejor Actriz por su magistral papel en The Iron Lady.
